| My
first inspiration to become an artist came from the animated
TV show Transformers. As a child, playing with the action figures
and watching the cartoon were my favourite pastimes. Soon after,
I had my first encounter with Japanese animation through a TV
series called Robotech: The Macross Saga. Delving into Japanese
animation and video games, I opened the gateway into an industry
with endless roads to explore.
As a youth
I was self-taught in art. I dabbled in traditional media and
experimented greatly through writing and drawing my own comics.
My first experience with digital media came with an entry into
the digital art contest for youths in the Canadian magazine
"Home Computing & Entertainment". My success in
the contest encouraged me to further explore the realm of digital
art.
After high
school graduation, I completed the Digital Arts Program at the
Centre for Digital Imaging & Sound (CDIS), also known as
the Art Institute of Vancouver (AI). The computer programs I
became familiar with provided a wide range of technical skill
sets that greatly facilitated my creative imagination. Having
experienced contract work in web and graphic design, I next
challenged myself with a difficult but exciting project: Gundam
Century, a comprehensive game modification for StarCraft, Blizzard
Entertainment's popular real time strategy game. As Gundam Century
quickly gained popularity, I became renowned as its sole developer
through a variety of high profile web sites and gaming magazines.
My talents
were soon discovered by the comic industry. I joined Dreamwave
Productions and quickly became a leading colorist at the company.
Having worked on a plethora of top-selling comic books (e.g.
Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and video game-based
licenses (e.g. Mega Man and Devil May Cry), I left the company
to seek new opportunities along the horizon.
Recently,
I joined Mainframe Entertainment as a conceptual artist and
designer, with a focus on character and prop design. The full
production environment broadened my perspectives and further
fuelled my creativity. In addition, I took this opportunity
to sharpen my strengths and overcome my weaknesses.
In
April of 2006, I was offered a position as an Associate 3D artist
at Blizzard Entertainment. My responsibilities were to be concepting
character, weapon, and armor designs. However, I turned away
the employment offer in Irvine, California.
I
currently reside as a concept designer, 2D and 3D artist at
Threewave Software in Vancouver, BC., Canada.
The
past has been a challenging trek through countless obstacles
and rewarding artistic experiences.
In fact, I have greater expectations for the future –
to reach beyond my boundaries as an artist and as an individual.
